COMPAS Poll/Survey

In the wake of some pressure on corporate Boards to establish targets for the appointment of women, the CEOs and business leaders on the COMPAS business panel were asked for their thoughts. The CEO panel opposes quotas, but favours mentorship and encouraging women to take directors’ courses.

In panelists’ opinion, the best reason for women directors is to broaden the corporation’s customer base. The best reason against establishing targets for the appointment of women is the risk of appointing advocates instead of experts. The best measures for advancing women are mentorship programs and directors’ courses.

These are the key findings from this past week’s Internet survey of CEOs and business leaders on the COMPAS panel. The weekly business survey is undertaken for Canadian Business magazine.
