COMPAS Poll/Survey

The CEOs and business leaders embrace Conservatives’ crime, tax, and parliamentary reform programs but are divided on health transfers to the provinces. Overwhelming majorities embrace the re-elected government’s commitments to:

  • Make jail time mandatory for sexual offences against children;
  • End house arrest for violent criminals;
  • Introduce term limits on Senators;
  • Pass truth-in-sentencing crime provision;
  • Proceed with targeted tax breaks for families;
  • Explore with provinces ways of electing Senators; and
  • Phase out per-vote subsidies for political parties.

Panelists are divided on the desirable magnitude of health transfers with the sole agreement that transfers should not rise as high as 8-10% per year.

These are the key findings from this past week’s Internet survey of CEOs and business leaders on the COMPAS panel. The weekly business survey is undertaken for Canadian Business magazine.
